Women’s rights advocates rallied in front of the Supreme Court in the rain on Wednesday against President Trump's pick Brett Kavanaugh nomination to US Supreme Court, saying Kavanaugh had a discouraging track record on issues significant for women.

The demonstrators, while standing outside the top US court for over an hour in periods of rain, chanted slogans on equal pay and the protection of women’s right. And, some of the demonstrators carried signs that read “Kava-nah” as speakers expressed their dissatisfaction of Kavanaugh’s record on equal pay, abortion rights and other issues.

Lilly Ledbetter, an activist for workplace equality, said that voting for Kavanaugh’s confirmation as the US Supreme Court’s judge would be “a vote against equal pay.”

It’s time to stand with working men and women and vote `no’ on Judge Kavanaugh,” Ledbetter said.

Ledbetter was joined by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., who appealed to the supporters to communicate to their friends and demand that their senators vote “no.”

We need our senators to stand up and vote `no’ against this judge, `cause he is going to harm this country and he is going to harm women,” Gillibrand said while addressing the rally.

The demonstration was also joined by Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Con.), who criticized Kavanaugh’s nomination by President Donald Trump considering that former Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen was pleaded guilty to eight federal charges. And in pleading guilty, Cohen said that on Trump’s instruction he made hush money payments to two women, with whom Trump allegedly had affairs.

If Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed, if his nomination is rushed through, it will be forever a stain on this court,” Blumenthal said.

He further added, “It will taint every decision of the Supreme Court.”

Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing is set to begin on September 4.
