Washington: The U.S. Supreme Court dismissed former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s appeal for reduction in his 14-year prison term handed over to him on corruption offenses .He was convicted for asking for bribes for making appointment to the Senate seat that Barack Obama vacated after being elected president in 2008.Besides 61 year old Blagojevich was charged and convicted for fraud and extortion during his six year term from 2003-2009.

The judges did not accept his arguments that he deserved leniency on the grounds that he has been  a “model prisoner” during  the years he has been in prison and by some counts his conviction in 2011 is not valid.

Prosecutors said Blagojevich, raised funds for campaign by promising raising pediatric healthcare reimbursement rates. Further he promised passing of law to support his state’s horse racing industry.

In 2015, a Chicago-based Court of Appeals cancelled  five of Blagojevich’s 18 convictions and ordered a re sentencing. But U.S. District Judge James Zagel in Chicago later reversed the decision and imposed 14-year prison term.
