Journalist Priya Ramani arrived today in the Patiala House Court due to the criminal defamation case filed against her by former Union Minister M J Akbar. She was released on bail by The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and has decided the next date of hearing as April 8.

M J Akbar filed this case against her because of an article published by Priya Ramani last October during the #MeToo campaign, where she accused the Akbar and said that he had sexually harassed her while she was working as a journalist under him around 20 years ago.

Due to these allegations, Akbar had to step down as union minister. He filed the criminal complaint against Priya Ramani terming her allegations "scurrilous, concocted, illogical and false".

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate had summoned Priya Ramani on January 29 and observed that allegations were prima facie "defamatory".

After Priya Ramani revealed these allegations, there are lots of women who have come out with accounts of alleged sexual harassment by MJ Akbar when he used to work as an editor.
