The Supreme Court of India pulled up Delhi High Court Registrar General as he failed to answer queries on civil suits pending in High Court for more than ten years.

Registrar General (RG) of the Delhi High Court was called upon by a bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi to apprise the Court of the number of civil suits pending in the HC and the reasons for delay in deciding these cases. The RG couldn't tell the judge how many suits pending in the HC were more than ten-year old.

This irked the bench. "One would expect the RG of a high court to come prepared to the Supreme Court. Why have you come here? Do you even know what this case is all about?" the judge asked the RG.

At this, Justice Gogoi retorted: "You are even unaware why the oldest case is pending in your HC since 1994. We expected you to have such elementary information at least."

Cutting a sorry figure, the RG finally told the bench that he was at the mercy of the Court. "I am very nervous my Lord. Kindly give me some time," the officer submitted.
