Ms. Suman Pawan Bodani has become the first Hindu woman to be appointed as a civil judge in Pakistan.

Suman Bodani is daughter of Dr Pawan Bodani and hails from Shahdadkot, Sindh. She stood 54th in the merit list for the appointment of civil judge/judicial magistrate and will serve in her native district of Qambar-Shahdadkot.

She passed her LLB. examination from Hyderabad and did her masters in law from Karachi’s SZABIST University and then practiced law for two years, under renowned advocate Justice (R) Rasheed Rizvi's law firm.

Suman Bodani said that “she belongs to an area where people are facing serious challenges to meet their basic needs. They cannot even afford to lodge cases. This is the reason behind my decision of joining law so I can bring justice to them.”

This is not the first time that a person from the Hindu community has been appointed as a judge. The first judge from the Hindu community was Justice Rana Bhagwandas, who served as the acting chief justice for brief periods between 2005 and 2007.
