State invites applications from lawyers to conduct SC/ST cases in special courts

The district collector and magistrate of South Goa have invited applications from competent practicing advocates for empanelment in the state district panel to conduct SC/ST cases in special courts, according to a report published in TOI.

The report further states that the state has asked the applications to be submitted to the collector’s office within two weeks.

As per a media note, the empanelment of advocates will be done in two categories.

Category ‘A’ will consist of advocates having 10 years and above experience. The advocates that falls into this category would be paid Rs 5,000 per hearing, provided the maximum amount per case does not go above Rs 1 lakh.

Category ‘B’ will comprise lawyers with experience of 7-10 years, preferably in criminal matters. And, these lawyers would be paid Rs 3,000 per hearing, provided the maximum amount per case does not exceed Rs 75,000.

The press note further reads that eminent advocates having experience in handling criminal matters, preferably the ones having a successful track record of conducting cases related to the atrocities against SCs and STs will be considered eligible.

Also, advocates need to be familiar with the social and cultural background of SC/ST communities in the state, and must have a good standing and reputation in the society.
