The Supreme Court of India has ordered today that lawyers who have submitted their application for verification in form 'A' of the Bar Council Place and Certificate of Private Verification Rules of 2015, would be allowed to vote in State Bar Council Elections.

The apex court also extended the deadline for holding elections to various State Bar Councils.

A bench of Justice R. k. Agrawal and Justice A M Spare further clarified that as per the report of the Central Verification Committee, it is found that the law degree of any advocate is fake, and then the court shall pass appropriate orders in respect of his enrolment as well as the participation in the election.

"The result of the election shall be subject to the final outcome of this plea," said the bench.

When the matter was heard on November 21, Senior advocate Rajiv Dutta, appearing for BCI had told the Court that out of more than 15 lakh lawyers in the country, only 6 lakh lawyers have submitted verification forms. He had submitted that the main reason for delay in the same was shortage of time and resources at the disposal of universities.
