Johnson Ong Ming, a 43-year-old Singapore DJ, has filed a case against the city’s law banning gay sex following India's landmark verdict on scrapping of similar legislation.

Ming, filed the court challenge on Monday, his lawyers told Reuters.

We intend to argue that Section 377A is absurd and arbitrary,” Ming’s lawyers Suang Wijaya and Eugene Thuraisingam told Reuters in a joint statement.

The Singapore law banning gay sex is “in violation of human dignity”, the lawyers further added.

Section 377(A) of Singapore's Penal Code states that any man who commits or tries to get another man involved in “any act of gross indecency with another male person”, whether in public or private, could be jailed for up to two years. The law, however, does not apply to homosexual acts between women.
