SC on Tuesday declined early hearing of plea opposing Karnataka governor's invitation to H.D. Kumaraswamy, leader of Congress-JD (S) combine, to form JD(S)-Congress coalition government.

Kumaraswamy was invited by Governor Vajubhai Vala – on May 19 – to form the coalition Government with Congress in the State and gave him 15 days time. The decision came in after BJP’s B.S. Yeddyurappa, who was sworn in as Karnataka’s chief minister, resigned from his post on Saturday evening before the floor test.

The petition, which was filed by Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, asserts the post-poll alliance of JD(S) and Congress (who were arch rivals) is a "fraud on the electorate and violative of the Constitution ... whereby electorate have been misled and deceived by both political parties”.

Kumaraswamy is scheduled to be sworn in as Karnataka's chief minister tomorrow, i.e. on Wednesday at 4.30 pm.
