SC Collegium recommends eight lawyers for elevation as judges to 4 High Courts

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended eight lawyers for elevation as judges to the High Courts of Gujarat, Jharkhand, Calcutta and Gauhati.

The Collegium consisting of CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justice MB Lokur and Justice AK Sikri made the following recommendations:

Gujarat HC

The following three lawyers have been recommended for appointment as judges to the High Court of Gujarat:

  1. Bhargav Dhirenbhai Karia
  2. Megha Bhupendra Jani
  3. Sangeeta Kamalsingh Vishen

Jharkhand HC

As per the Collegium resolution, the following two advocates have been recommended for judgeship to Jharkhand High Court:

  1. Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi
  2. Deepak Roshan

The Collegium had, however, remitted three other names proposed for elevation as judges to the court, including Bhawesh Kumar, Sadhna Kumar and Sudhir Kumar Sharma.

Calcutta HC

The following two names have been recommended for appointment as Calcutta High Court judges:

  1. Tirthankar Ghosh
  2. Hiranmay Bhattacharyya

Gauhati HC

The Collegium has recommended the name of advocate Manish Choudhury for elevation to the Gauhati High Court, while remitting the name of a Judicial Officer – Ms. Selina Begum – proposed for elevation as the judge of the same court.
