New Delhi:  SC bench of Justices MB Lokur and Deepak Gupta while hearing DJB application complaining that Haryana had failed to provide constant amount of water to Delhi despite its order, rapped the Upper Yamuna River Board (UYRB) telling it to resolve issue of water allocation between the two states.

The court told the member secretary of the board who was present in the court that it was duty of the board to ensure proper distribution and asked it to submit suggestions in the court on the matter by May 16.

The court said the board which has been set up with the objective of regulating supply of water in all water bodies in the NCR, should do its work but is not doing the work for which it was set up. The top court said it is boards to resolve difference over drinking water supply between Delhi and Haryana.

The counsel for Haryana defended the state that Haryana is already supplying more water than was stipulated though it was receiving much lower supplies from Hathni Kund barrage. But the counsel for DJB stated the issue was of drinking water supply which is falling short by 120 cu secs.
