Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced today (April 2) that a sum of Rs 1 crore will be given to families of healthcare personnel if unfortunately they do not survive while dealing with coronavirus cases. He said it will be a mark of ‘respect to their service’.

Mr. Kejriwal in an interaction with doctors thanked all healthcare staff for their efforts to curb the coronavirus outbreak. These are unprecedented times, the chief minister said.

He said “Your contribution is no less than a soldier’s…if any healthcare personnel, including government or private doctor, nurse, and sanitation workers, die while serving coronavirus patients, the government will give Rs one crore for their families.”

The announcement by Mr. Kejriwal came days after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said doctors, nurses, paramedics, technicians, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of COVID-19 patients will receive a special insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh.

The chief minister said earlier that 1,548 people were evacuated from Nizamuddin Markaz, 441 of who were hospitalized after showing symptoms. He said 1,107 people have been quarantined who were attending the religious congregation in Nizamuddin West.
