Supreme court gave instructions to the Cheif Justice of Allahabad on Monday for the appointment of two new senior judicial officers to be the observers for the disputed site of Babri Masjid- Ram Mandir site. The decision came in the wake of the retirement and elevation to High Court of the judges from the lower judiciary who had been the observers of the site since 2003.

The Supreme Court dismissed the plea that was filed opposing the appointments of the new judges and a bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justices Ashok Bhushan, and S. Abdul Nazeer deemed it unsuitable for the task to be performed by the High Court judges. Reportedly, the Supreme Court acted on a plea of the Allahabad High Court to relieve S.K. Singh and T.M. Khan from the duty following the elevation of S.K. Singh as the High Court judge and retirement of T.M. Khan.

A selection was to be made amongst the additional district judges of six districts including Sultanpur, Basti, Gonda, Faizabad, Barabanki and Ambedkar Nagar as asked by the Senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi yet the final decision was left to the chief justice of the Allahabad High Court.
