Prominent advocate Babar Qadri, who used to appear very frequently on Indian national channels in television debates, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

“He was shot and critically injured. While being transported to the hospital, he succumbed to injuries,” said a senior police officer of J&K Police. Also stated that the suspected terrorists fired at Qadri from point blank, killing him on the spot in downtown Srinagar's Hawal area. Although he was rushed to the hospital, he was reported dead by doctors.

“I urge the state Police administration to register FIR against this Shah Nazir who has spread wrong campaign that I work for agencies. This un true statement can lead to threat to my life.” tweeted by Advocate Babar Qadri on September 21, 2020.  He had urged the police in Jammu to register a FIR against a Facebook user for launching a "wrong campaign" against him.

Advocate Babar Qadri, a vocal critic of the central government in another tweet dated September 13, 2020, said “abolition of Article 370 and Article 35 A was never done for the interest of Indian people rather it was done to promote capitalists. Soil & sand is being excavated by companies now, which was a source of livelihood to poor kashmiri. Jahlim and Hokarsar is being dredged out by companies.”

The brazen attack on Qadri comes less than 24 hours after BJP worker Bhupinder Singh, chairman of the Khag Block Development Council (BDC), was shot down in Dalwash village in the Budgam district of central Kashmir. Unidentified gunmen just outside his ancestral home opened fire at Singh, police said.
