The Delhi HC has inaugurated its online filing or e-filing system on Saturday 13th June, 2020. The system was inaugurated in the presence of Justice D.N Patel (Chief Justice Delhi HC) who was also joined by his fellow judges and other distinguished guests.

This system will enable advocates to file their cases, caveat, and applications etc. online while sitting in their offices or at home. Once the system begins its operations it will remove the aspect of an advocate physically visiting the filing counters.

Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, who was addressing the program noted that e-filing will make it convenient and cost-effective for litigants to do the documentation process from the convenience of their home. This will speed up the filing process and the process of dispute resolution. It also saves trees as there is no paperwork involved and is therefore effective for the environment.

The e-filing program is a robust framework that offers paperless handling of cases from the stage of filing to its disposal. An added feature of e-filing system is the integration of the court-fee in the software itself.

Justice Rajeev Shakdher, who is also the chairman of the IT committee, said that we have now arrived at a point where we can file lawsuits, responses, caveats, etc. from anywhere we want, without any deadline to fulfil. Anyone can use these services 24/7, and from the comfort of their homes.

He further stated, “Not being present in physical environment is not something to be happy about but we have tried to come up with a system to assist everyone. For those who cannot access these facilities due to lack of connectivity, hardware, etc. we have also set up counters where lawyers can go and get the filing done.”

While concluding the inauguration, Chief Justice Patel also added that e-filing was previously also available but it was limited to matters relating to arbitration and taxation. Now with the inception of the e-filing system the ambit has been widened to cover all kinds of matters.
