Chennai: Delivering an interim order on plea filed by Dr C Sudhan and six others who are working as assistant surgeons in government medical facilities in Tamil Nadu as in-service candidates in Tamil Nadu Medical Services, Justice S Vaidyanathan of the Madras high court directed the Director General of Health Services (DGHS), New Delhi and Tamil Nadu’s state selection committee not to allot seats to any students both under the all-India quota and state quota until further orders.

The petitioners had asked the court to give direction to DGHS to comply with Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, in admissions to PG medical courses. Further it wanted court to direct DGHS to award due weightage (incentive) marks for service rendered in remote/difficult areas.

Few of the petitioners also pleaded for 50% reservation for in service candidates under the all-India quota as well. During the hearing, assistant solicitor-general Karthikeyan told the court that though the first phase of counselling had been completed, no admissions would take place until the court gives final order.
