Lalu Prasad found guilty in fourth fodder scam case

New Delhi: RJD chief and former Chief Minister of Bihar,  Lalu Prasad Yadav was  found guilty in the fourth of five fodder scam cases.He is already in the Birsa Munda prison in Ranchi where he is serving a 13.5-year jail term after being found guilty by a special CBI court in three other cases.

This case is about fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from the treasury of Dumka, Jharkhand, but was earlier in Bihar when Lalu was chief minister. Fraudulent withdrawls were made from the Dumka treasury by Animal Husbandry Department officials between 1991 and 1996.

Another accused, Jagannath Mishra, also a former Bihar CM like Lalu, was found not guilty in this case.Mishra was convicted in two fodder cases by different courts in Jharkhand. Of the 31 accused, the court convicted 19 and acquitted 12 and will pass orders on the quantum of sentence over three days beginning March 21 through video conferencing.

On Saturday, Lalu Prasad was admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences after he fell ill while in jail. RJD national spokesperson Manoj Jha said they would appeal the conviction.
