NEW DELHI: The Karnataka high court judges who issued the hijab verdict will be granted 'Y' category security. After receiving death threats, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai made the announcement.

"We have decided to provide 'Y' category security to all three judges who ruled on the hijab. I have instructed the Director-General and the Inspector-General to thoroughly investigate the complaint filed at Vidhanasoudha police station, in which some people threatened the judges' lives ", Bommai made the remarks while speaking to reporters outside his Bengaluru residence.

Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi is also among the three judges. The three-judge bench would include Justices Krishna Dixit and Khazi M Jaibunnisa, in addition to the Chief Justice.

Bommai condemned the incident, saying, "Being in favour of community is not secularism, that is communalism. I condemn this, we all should stand together. The government will condemn this."

The Karnataka high court rejected several petitions questioning a ban on hijab in educational institutions, stating that wearing a hijab is not a vital religious practise of Islam.

Three Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) functionaries were arrested in Tamil Nadu for allegedly making disparaging remarks about the Karnataka high court's decision on the hijab row.
