Just a week after he was appointed a Supreme Court judge, amidst seniority row, Justice Joseph today said, “at 60 plus I have become a baby again being the 25th judge”. He also said that he would not make any promises, but would be true to his oath.

Justice Joseph was speaking at the felicitation organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the four new appointments to the Supreme Court, including Justices Indu Malhotra, Indira Banerjee, Vineet Saran and himself.

“At 60 plus I have become a baby again being the 25th judge and I express my deep gratitude to office bearers for extending the felicitation I am also conscious of my own limitations. Elevation to the highest court is indeed a great honour. It would be presumptuous on my part to make any promise. All that I can do is I hope and pray that I will be true to the oath I have taken which will go a long way. The primary role of a judge is to be true to the court”, Justice Joseph said.

Apart from Justice Joseph, the three other judges Indu Malhotra, Indira Banerjee and Vineet Saran also spoke on the occasion.
