Former Supreme Court Judge DK Jain was, on 21st February 2019, appointed as the first court-appointed ombudsman for the BCCI under the terms of newly approved constitution of the cash rich cricket board. He will hold hearings at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.

His appointment was a consequence of the Apex Court dealing with the issue related to "importance and urgency" in appointing an ombudsman. All the parties before the Court have agreed to his name.

The bench, while appointing the ombudsman, said:

"We are happy to note that by consent, the parties have suggested and have agreed on the name of Justice D K Jain, a former judge of this court, as an ombudsman.

We, accordingly, appoint Justice (retd) D K Jain as the first ombudsman under article 40, chapter nine of the constitution of BCCI framed by this court under order dated August 9, 2018.”
the Court ordered that senior advocate P S Narasimha will assist the Court and would speak to Justice Jain regarding his appointment and the time he will take the charge.

In the 10th status report of Committee of Administrators (CoA), it was indicated that there was a need for appointment of an ombudsman and an ethics officer at the earliest in BCCI.

Justice Jain as the unanimous name from among the 6 names proposed to the bench. All the Advocates who appeared accepted the suggestion.
The types of disputes that the appointed ombudsman have jurisdiction pertain to members, associations and IPL franchisee.
