The Supreme Court has directed Karti Chidambaram, son of Senior Advocate and former Union Minister P Chidambaram, to deposit Rs.10 crores with registry as one of the conditions for permitting him to go abroad. He was permitted to go to the UK and also France as his company is organising ATP and WTA tennis tournaments.

A Bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi said that “Don't play around with law” and asked him to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on March 5,6,7 and 12 respectively.

Karti is facing criminal cases which are being investigated by the ED and the CBI in relation to alleged money laundering in Aircel-Maxis, INX deals. While granting him bail last year, the SC had restrained him from leaving country except with Court's permission
