Famous singer Cliff Richard who has sued BBC for covering South Yorkshire police raid at his home in Berkshire in August 2014 has claimed top damages from BBC for violation of his privacy. He has told court that BBC's act of flying helicopter over his home during the day of raid was blatant intrusion of his privacy. Post the searches the police did not slap any charges on Richard and raid was in connection with sexual assault case dating to 1985.

However the Journalist Dan Johnson, who covered the incident, said BBC had right to tell public about police search of star’s home and editors made ultimate decision of going ahead with the story. He told the court how he stumbled across the story by a chance meeting with a contact. He said star was not shown as guilty but we just said he is being investigated. The story may be damaging to his reputation but we have a right to tell public he is being investigated.

The arguments continue in the court.
