Months after accusations of sexual assault against Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein surfaced, the disgraced producer has finally surrendered to the New York Police Department (NYPD) to face criminal charges over sexual misconduct.

The law enforcement officials told the NY Times, “Weinstein arrived at the NYPD's 1st Precinct stationhouse in Manhattan, where he was expected to face sexual assault charges relating to at least one of the many women, Lucia Evans”.

Since the revelations against Weinstein started making the rounds – which also sparked the #MeToo movement – it is the first criminal case to be taken up against Weinstein.

Weinstein’s attorney Benjamin Brafman chose not to comment on reports of his client’s surrender.

According to reports, Weinstein is likely to be taken to the Manhattan Criminal Court for the formal presentation of charges later on Friday. And, Weinstein is expected to be released on bail for $1m in cash besides wear a monitoring device.

Although, Weinstein apologized for his behavior, but he has denied accusations of "non-consensual sex" made against him.
