Former MP Director General of Police Rishi Kumar Shukla, a 1983-batch officer, has been appointed the new chief of the CBI

Rishi Shukla is a Madhya Pradesh cadre IPS officer of the 1983 batch and will occupy the position of Director amid the time when the agency has been left badly bruised by an internecine feud between his predecessor Alok Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has, based on the panel recommended by the Committee constituted as per Section 4A (1) of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act (DSPE), 1946, approved the appointment of Shri Rishi Kumar Shukla,” said a government order.

The appointment of Shukla as the CBI chief was finalised by the high-powered Selection Committee led by PM Narendra Modi. He will take charge from acting director M Nageswara Rao who was appointed after Alok Verma was removed from the office by the Selection Committee.
