New Delhi: For the very first time in the Supreme Court's history, nine judges took the oath of office at the same time. Chief Justice of India N V Ramana administered the oath of office to nine new judges, including three women, in a ceremony held today in the auditorium of the Supreme Court's additional building complex.

After this historical movement the strength of the top Court increased to 33 inclusive of the chief justice of India, out of the sanctioned strength of 34.

The names of nine new Supreme Court justices are-

1) Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka

2) Justice Vikram Nath

3) Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari

4) Justice Hima Kohli

5) Justice B V Nagarathna.

6) Justice C T Ravikumar

7) Justice M M Sundresh

8) Justice Bela M Trivedi

9) Justice P S Narasimha

Three out of the nine new judges, Justices Nath, Nagarathna, and Narasimha, are also in line to become the Chief Justice of India.

The oath of office for new judges is traditionally administered in the CJI's courtroom, but the ceremony was moved to the auditorium due to the need for strict adherence to COVID-19 norms, according to a press release issued by the apex court's public relations office on Monday, i.e., 30.08.2021.
