Delhi State Government has informed the Delhi High Court that they will sanction pension of Rs. 2500/- monthly for the widows and onetime payment of Rs. 1 Lac for the wedding of the daughters. Onetime payment of Rs. 20,000/- to be paid to women who are under difficulties, under various schemes. The State Government took this decision while hearing a PIL on approximately 12,000 widowed women not receiving their monthly pension during COVID-19 times and there is no such valid reason to it. During the hearing of this PIL, the government took the decision of paying monthly pension to the widows.

The petition was heard via video conferencing. The division bench comprising of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan were of the view that the State Government’s good work should be highlighted. It is also seen that the onetime amount of Rs. 1 Lac for their daughters’ weddings have increased from the previous amount of Rs. 60,000/-.

A social worker, Harpal Singh Rana filed the above mention PIL through Advocate Akhil Rana. The petition said to release the due pension amounts with urgent effect after proper verifications of the beneficiary. The bench further appreciated the good initiative by both the petition and the State Government and said that there is no reason to carry on with this case and hence disposed it off
