New Delhi : While listening to PIL submitted by NGO Social Jurist asking the court to direct CBSE to hold Class 10 Maths  rexam in April instead of July, a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar questioned  the CBSE and asked how it could wait till July to re-conduct the test and keep the students on ‘tenterhooks’ till then. The counsel for Petitioner Ashok Agarwal also prayed to court to ask CBSE to award liberals marks to the students in the Maths and Economics re-examinations.

The Delhi High Court asked the Central Board of Secondary Education to let it know by April 16 about its plan, if any, to re-conduct the Class 10 Maths paper which had been leaked recently. The court observed that delay in the decision could lead to waste of precious academic year for the student as well as create unnecessary stress on the students.

Counsel for CBSE informed the court it is trying to find out the extent of the leak -whether it is pan India or limited only to Delhi and Haryana  and on that basis it will announce the date for re-examination.

The court issued notices both to the CBSE and the Centre seeking their stands on a plea for a court-monitored probe into the recent leaks of the Maths and Economics question papers of Class 10 and 12, respectively.

The Class 12 Economics paper which was leaked is being held again on April 25.
