An FIR has reportedly been filed against an unknown man for creating and operating a fake Twitter handle in the name of the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.

According to a news report published in News18, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police filed the FIR after it received a number of complaints against the Twitter handle.

The matter was first brought to the notice of the Police by Additional Registrar of Security and Caretaking at the Supreme Court, Colonel GB Marwah.

According to reports, Col. Marwah found that the fake Twitter account not only had CJI Gogoi’s image as the profile picture, but was also actively using the social media platform to publish misleading information on several issues.

After carrying out his own investigation into the matter and finding the Twitter account to be fake, Col. Marwah approached the Special Cell of the Delhi Police.

Police reportedly reached out to Twitter India and have been successful at getting the fake account suspended.

A team has been formed to nab the accused, however, he has not been identified as of now.

But the police has reportedly found that the youth responsible for creating the fake Twitter account was operating from Western Uttar Pradesh. The accused has also created several other fake accounts in the past and subsequently closed them.
