BCI constitute Seven Member Committee for Drafting Advocates Protection Bill

The Bar Council of India through its Press Release announced that the Seven-Member Committee has been constituted to draft an Advocates Protection Bill.

Inputs of stakeholders have been invited by the Council on the draft bill and further directions to circulate it to Bar Associations and Bar Council of the country. The inputs have been invited  to be mailed by 9th July 2021 at advprotectionbill.bci@gmail.com.

It has been assured by the Council, that all the submissions and suggestions will be duly considered to make changes accordingly to the draft bill before the final presentation to Justice to table and Ministry of Law.

Following several Advocate’s assault reports across the country, BCI formed a seven-member committee to draught a bill to protect them, which included:

1.     Senior Advocate S Prabakaran, Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India;

2.     Senior Advocate Debi Prasad Dhal, Executive Chairman, Bar Council of India Trust;

3.     Advocate Suresh Chandra Shrimali, Co-Chairman, Bar Council of India;

4.     Advocate Shailendra Dubey, Member, Bar Council of India;

5.     Advocate A Rami Reddy, Executive Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India Trust;

6.     Advocate Shreenath Tripathi, Member, Bar Council of India; and

7.     Advocate Prashant Kumar Singh, Member, Bar Council of India.

The bills aim is to ensure adequate safety and protection towards the people working in the legal fraternity carrying on with their duties without fear.

It has also been delivered by the Council, “upon the need for social security, apart from physical security and the protection against illegal arrest and detention and redressal of grievances of Advocates and Bar Associations too"
