Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a legislation by which victims of online sex trafficking will find it easier to sue online platforms that facilitate online sex trafficking. So far the websites enjoyed legal immunity but post the law if the victim can show that websites knowingly facilitated sex trafficking then can be sued.

The tech companies were opposing this law on the grounds that they will be held responsible for the content posted by their users. But after they understood the import of the law, they toned down their opposition.

The bill  which was in the making for many years, received support from Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump as well.

“This is a momentous day in the fight to help stop online sex trafficking, and a big victory for trafficking victims and survivors who for too long have been denied the opportunity to get the justice they deserve,” said Republican U.S. Senator Rob Portman, a co-sponsor of the Senate version of the bill.

Trump signed the bill in presence of select group of women.
