Justice AK Sikri recused himself from hearing a petition challenging the appointment of M Nageswara Rao as the Interim Director of the CBI.

Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi had earlier this week recused himself from hearing the matter, citing that he was a part of the high-powered Selection Committee which will decide the next CBI Director on January 24. Therefore, the matter was referred to the bench headed by Justice Sikri.

Earlier, CJI had nominated Justice Sikri for the meeting because the former had decided Alok Verma's petition in the Supreme Court.
Justice Sikri is a member of the Selection Committee that appoints the CBI Director. The committee had earlier this month sacked Alok Verma from the CBI Director post and appointed Rao as the Interim Director of CBI.

The matter will be listed tomorrow before SC another bench.
