A one judge bench of the Allahabad High Court recently observed that, if a boy and a girl (both major) are living together with their free will, then, nobody, not even their parents has the right to interfere with their living together.

The court’s observation came while hearing a writ petition filed by a couple, who had sought the court’s direction to their parents and others to not to interfere in their married life, and also demanded protection of their lives and liberty.

The couple told the court that they were both major and they had solemnized their marriage as per their wish but feared for their lives from relatives.

The High Court bench of Justice Kaushal Jayendra Thaker while referring to several Supreme Court judgments observed that the couple is at liberty to live together and no one shall be permitted to interfere in their peaceful living.

The court then directed the police to provide immediate protection to the petitioners, if they make such a request.
