Attorney General KK Venugopal today expressed dissatisfaction at the manner in which Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi deals with cases.

And when CJI Gogoi dismissed a case today with Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal appearing in it, the latter said the Chief Justice can’t dismiss petitions like this.

People come to this court after travelling thousands of miles and Your Lordships don’t even hear their arguments and dismiss cases saying you have read it. This is not the way, at least at admission stage they should be heard“, said AG Venugopal.

Agreeing to the AG’s request, CJI Gogoi said:

Alright Mr. Venugopal. We take your statement in the right spirit. You may now argue.”

Since assuming the office over a month ago, CJI Gogoi has been taking a tough stance and disposing of petitions in a jiffy. In fact, the CJI had made his intentions clear the very first day relating to mentioning only urgent matters for hearing.

Chief Justice Gogoi had also stated that he has a plan to tackle judicial backlog which is bringing disrepute to the judiciary.
